HOME MADE Chicken Burger and Spicy Potato Wedges

I recently watched an episode of Jamie Oliver’s food revolution, and was terrified with the way burgers are often made in fast food joints.Burger is one of my (or let me take the liberty to say) nation’s favorite, but growing awareness about food and health concerns make us think twice before grabbing one at a local fast food joint.

So why not miss travel time to a local fast food joint and make one at home 🙂 Bet it is quick to make, delicious and healthy !

400 gms chicken fillet , wash and cut to small cubes (I like mincing at home so that I know what portions of chicken I use)

In a food processor (I used my newly bought Kenwood Mini Chopper)  add chicken cubes, 5 garlic pods,4 green chillies (adjust according to taste) and mince till chicken is finely minced

Remove the mixture in a bowl, add some salt, pepper, bread crumbs (1-2 heaped spoon),cumin powder (optional) and mix well.

Grease your palm with 2 drops of oil , take a large ball of the mixture in your hand and make them into 6-7cm wide and 2cm thick patties (as large as your bun for burger)

Heat a non-stick pan , add 2tbsp of olive oil and shallow fry the patty. Remember to fry one side for 2-3 mins till golden brown and then turn and fry the other side for 2-3mins (or as required)

Preparing the BUN

Cut the burger bun into 2 halves

on one half spread some mayo/mustard sauce (as per taste)and  sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper

on the other half place a iceberg lettuce (I dont like it, so didnt use it) , the cooked chicken patty , stack on top some fried onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers (use your imagination to add more or less)

close both the halfes with a toothpick and serve with ketchup.

ENJOY…..wait…if you work a little harder you have home made SPICY POTATO WEDGES

Wash and dice 4 medium size potatoes (see Gordon Ramsay’s How to Video for cutting potatoes in uniform wedge shape)

Cook in micro-oven for 3 mins and drain all water

Add 2 tbsp of olive oil,

Add spices – salt, crushed pepper powder, mixed herbs, dry mango powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder (optional), garlic powder

Mix well

Place in an oven , lined with foil and oiled and place in oven for 20-25mins / till golden brown

TIP:Make the patty mixture and keep aside. Make the wedges and place in oven. Cook patty and prepare burger when ready to eat!!
